About this Comic Strip -- "Solitary Bean"We've mentioned balanda before. As you can probably imagine, life in a Soviet prison was pretty tough. Not a lot of amenities. Since the food wasn't great -- their diet pretty much only consisted of this soup-like "balanda" -- food was a big deal to these prisoners. This story comes from our research for the movie. It is actually based on a real-life experience from a prisoner in a Soviet detention center. And yes, the bean was a very big deal!Characters featured:Yasha (played by Quentin McCuiston), Jakob (Jeff Stewart), and Bruno (Sal Rendino).
UNDER JAKOB'S LADDERis an upcoming feature film set in a prison in the Soviet Union in 1938. The prison is populated with a whole assortment of characters. Because of the nature of the regime, most of these prisoners were political prisoners, arrested because they did not agree with the policies of the Communist State.THIS COMIC STRIPis based on scenes from the movie, as well as story ideas that did not make the final draft of the screenplay. All drawings are by Lizzie Hupcey, the film's storyboard artist. You can go to Lizzie's website at: www.rabidlemur.com« Go to the UNDER JAKOB'S LADDER website |
